If you ask us, there's never a bad time to update a facility bathroom. Easily one of the highest traffic environments in any workplace, restrooms, locker rooms, & showers all need regular upkeep to stay safe and sanitary. But when it comes time to revitalize a restroom, one piece of equipment is often overlooked: bathroom partitions. Partitions provide privacy, help maintain a clean environment, and add a level of professionalism to any facility.
Ironically, this simple piece of hardware often confounds owners. After all, how exactly do you decide which material (and there are a lot of them!) is best for your particular bathroom?
The Best Material for Your Facility
Selecting a material for your bathroom partitions requires you to consider a few variables, most importantly the type of facility you operate. The requirements and expectations of a Class A Prestige building are very different from those of a hospital, or a school, or a restaurant.
When you do choose your material, be sure to also consider:
- Durability
- Maintenance and Cleaning Needs
- Graffiti and Scratch Resistance
- Government Codes and Building Regulations
- Product Warranties
Taking a closer look at the available materials will help you more easily select the partitions best suited to your environment.
Solid Color Reinforced Composite (SCRC)
With a homogeneous color throughout the material, SCRC is extremely hard, making it possible to sand out gouges and scratches. We suggest this material for standard-use buildings with heavy traffic, and anyone concerned with vandalism or graffiti.
High-Pressure Laminate (HPL)
HPL comes with a multitude of color and pattern options, making it a great choice for anyone with customization in mind. This material is highly cost-effective, great for a building on a budget. However, deep scratches and gauges will expose the internal paper material. If you’re worried about breaking the bank, but don’t fear vandals, HPL could work for you.
Compact Grade Laminate (CGL)
For Class A Prestige Buildings, we offer Compact Grade Laminate. CGL is:
- Water Resistant
- Dent & Scratch Resistant
- Available in Many Colors
- Qualified for ICC Class A or B Interior Wall Finish Classification
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
If you operate a school or any heavy traffic standard-use buildings where vandalism is a concern, we recommend High-Density Polyethylene. HDP has a homogeneous color, allowing gouges and scratches to be sanded out. HDP is also water resistant and comes with an extended warranty.
Painted Metal & Stainless Steel
For a cost-effective solution, you’ve come to the right place. While painted metal & stainless steel are prone to the scratches and scuffs that come along with heavy use, these materials are low cost and widely available. If you’re looking for a quick and inexpensive solution to your bathroom partition needs, you’ve found it.
Ask the Experts!
If it feels like you have a lot of choices when it comes to bathroom partition materials, it's because you do. Choices are usually a good thing, but if you’re feeling overwhelmed, we’re here to help. After all, you already rely on our recommendations for everything from disinfectants to hand soaps. Why should this be any different?
Recently, a client with a manufacturing facility called us and asked for our recommendation. Our first suggestion was actually a question: What do you want the partition to do?
This customer decided they wanted a partition that:
- Lasts a long time before needing to be replaced
- Has a good warranty
- Resists scratches & dents
After some thought and discussion, we landed on the Bobrick 1082 Duraline Series Compact Grade Laminate (CGL). Available in a wide selection of colors and patterns, this partition is built to last. Designed for wet, high traffic environments this durable and robust partition comes with a 25-year warranty, just in case.
