Polypropylene Film Tape
Polypropylene (plastic) film tape is a popular option here. Our 2 mil thick tape is good for everyday use, and our 2.5 mil thick tape is perfect for use with medium weight boxes. In addition, 3 mil thick tape is rip resistant, and can be used for heavy double wall boxes.
Polypropylene film tape is typically manufactured with acrylic or hot melt adhesives. Acrylic tapes provide users with stability over long durations, UV resistance to protect against yellowing, strong adhesion in low temperatures, and quieter unwind. However, their holding power can be somewhat limited as compared to hot melt tapes.
Differences Between Hot Melt & Acrylic Tape
Hot melt tapes are produced with a very strong synthetic rubber resin adhesive, which instantly generates a permanent bond with superior holding power on corrugated surfaces. On the other hand, acrylic adhesive tapes are recommended for cold, harsher environments, like cold storage, unheated warehouses, and facilities that handle produce packaging, meat and poultry processing, or dairy.
Acrylic tapes are also recommended for boxes made of highly recycled content, since the material can affect the packaging tape’s ability to deliver a secure seal. Hot melt tapes may not perform well in humid environments, whereas acrylic tapes can withstand humidity.
In manual processes, acrylic tapes are typically a good choice. For automated processes, hot melt tapes offer the performance demanded to keep lines running.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Tape
Another printable plastic tape is PVC (polyvinyl chloride). PVC tapes can serve you in many ways, and can be used for general purpose, electrical, lane marking, hazard warning, duct sealing, vapor barrier, protection, construction, and industrial applications.
Many people choose to use PVC tapes because they:
- Conform to awkward surfaces very well
- Have some degree of electrical insulation
- Are flame retardant due to the nature of the polymer
- Are water resistant and non-corrosive
Our PVC tape is 2.2 mil, can be printed on white, tan or clear film colors, and all PVC tape comes with natural rubber adhesive.
WAT Printed Paper Tape
Water activated (WAT) printer tape, also known as gummed tape, can be either reinforced or non-reinforced. Reinforced, water activated tape features fiberglass reinforcement for added strength and durability, and make up for the majority of water that this type of tape uses up.
There are many advantages to using water-activated tape for carton closure, including permanent carton closure, as well as increased durability and strength. This type of tape is environmentally friendly, and offers a clean professional looking closure appearance on the package.
With the explosive growth of eCommerce, water activated tape has become more popular thanks to its focus on having a secure, pilfer-proof seal on packages being shipped by parcel services.
Choosing Your WAT Tape
Choosing the right water-activated tape depends on the weight of the package. Very lightweight packages may use a non-reinforced tape, whereas heavier packages that demand a stronger seal will need reinforced tape.
Greeno prints on the following paper tapes:
- Central 240 reinforced tape for cartons up to 30 pounds
- Central 260 reinforced tape for cartons up to 55 pounds
- GSO (gummed side out, non-reinforced) can be used for sealing delicatessen and butcher wrap, retail gift wrap & carry-out packages
- Central 160 non-reinforced tape recommended for sealing lightweight cartons
